Search engine optimization is a popular topic on the net. Its also one of the most misunderstood topics.
Its basic form, search engine optimization or SEO is an act of altering web sites so thati t does well on search engine listings. Now even this quick to the point definition of search engine optimization (SEO) can lead to spirited debates about the meaning and purpose of SEO.
A frequents question is; why is SEO such a popular topic that causes debates in the SEO community. In my humble opinion there are 6 reasons why Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has the popularity that it currently enjoys.
1. Targeted Website Traffic – one of the most important factors to SEO is the website traffic and even more specifically targeted website traffic. Currently on the net, the largest source of traffic on a continuous basis is from search engines. On yearly bases, statistics show that 75 to 80 percent of purchases are made by individuals on the internet as a result of search engines and the vast majority of people that stumble upon websites thru search engines. Numbers so dominate cannot be ignored even by the biggest opponents of search engine optimization. Also, SEO is focused on optimizing websites for ranking success that’s why many are interested in it.
2. SEO Controversy – Search engine optimization (SEO) is one of the most controversial topics concerning website operations. SEO basically provides a viable method for websites to be seen in search engines which are crucial for traffic. But opponents disgusted with SEO claim that there are other ways to gain visibility on search engines without SEO. Such situation, which has some merit on arguments on both sides, generates debates between proponents of SEO and SEO opponents on continuous bases that are fought on the web and even in the TV and magazines. Simply put controversy produces attention and whether you like it or hate it, SEO really does provide a great deal of controversy.
